On Becoming a Pilot

I just got back from Peru.

Yes, Peru.

Well okay, Peru, Illinois. I just went on my first crosscountry (where I wasn’t sitting in the back seat), which is basically a long flight to another airport where you have to do a flight plan with a whooooole bunch of reeeeally fun fuel, time, and distance calculations, and you need to find your groundspeed and wind correction angle, and you use check points on the ground (pilotage), and make sure your heading is always correct (dead reckoning), aaaand yeah. I hope you picked up on the sarcasm.

Anyways, we went to Illinois Valley Reginal, which is in Peru, IL (Like an hour and a half away driving, 45-50 minutes flying). I got to see Starved Rock from up above and Skydive Chicago - a few minutes after we past they were letting jumpers out. All pretty cool, except I had to wake up super early because you need current weather to do the flight plan and I had to be at school at 8:45 because there’s more to do that you can’t until you know the specific aircraft.

I was gonna say something else entirely not related to flying….? Whatevs. I’m doing another XC tomorrow to Rockford. And now… Nap time!
